He stays hidden for years until one test subject by the name of Chell is tested by GLaDOS. The comic follows Doug Rattmann, a lab worker at Aperture Science with a history of schizophrenia, who is the only scientist that survives the destruction of Aperture by GLaDOS. This was a joint project between Valve and established comic book artists, like Micheal Avon Oeming and Jay Pinkerton. It also reveals the story of the mysterious Rattmann who is never shown but mentioned in the games. It depicts the events between the end of Portal and the beginning of Portal 2. Portal 2: Lab Rat is a graphic novel that released on the internet in April of 2011.
